Who We Are

WHERE IT BEGAN

In 2020 Erin Marie Fahey fell in love twice. Once with her now fiancée and business partner, Justin Winkler, and once with the geodesic dome. A long time enthusiast of unconventional dwellings the unique shape and ambience of dome tents swept her off her feet, and quickly became an obsession. Before long Justin developed dome fever too. They spent hours daydreaming of a dome shaped home filled with light and surrounded by nature. A chance at a life of authenticity and beauty. They never imagined their collective daydream could become a reality.

BEFORE THE DOMES

Erin and Justin are both what they call “late to life.” During the years when most were earning degrees, starting careers, and making families, they were struggling to find their way. And while they both fought through and eventually found their footing, they felt deep down that something was missing. They had a comfortable life together - Erin worked as a nanny and Justin trained to be a paramedic - but the future looked exactly like the present. The charm of city life and comfortable consumerism was wearing thin.

INSPIRATION HITS

Finally, in the Summer of 2022 Justin found a Dome for rent in Wyoming, and the couple set out to see if reality lived up to their dreams. The 20’ dome stood alone amid rolling desert hills, and the view from the bay window revealed a distant mesa and the expanse of sky above it. Inside the dome was a perfectly appointed home, cozy and filled with light, so close to nature you could almost touch it. From their four poster bed they sipped coffee and watched the fog roll off the mesa and across the hills. They ate meals on the deck and stargazed while soaking in the outdoor hot tub.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

This magical experience solidified in Erin and Justin’s minds that a dome had to be a part of their future, but it also gave birth to an idea. What if they could live their dream and share the beauty of dome living with others? Determined to make this day dream a reality Erin reached out The Rocky Mountain Micro Financing Institute. She was accepted into their Idea Lab Program, and with the help of the incredible RMMFI team Rocky Mountain Eco Domes was born She is currently one of the select entrepreneurs in the organization’s Business Bootcamp and every day her determination grows. While Erin learns the ins and outs of small business ownership Justin is busy learning the trades they will need to make their off-grid vision a reality.
